Beat Bernet was born in 1954 in Zug/Switzerland. He studied economics at the University of Zurich and received his Ph.D. in economics. After graduation, he worked at Arthur Andersen AG in Zurich, and for some years at Bank Vontobel & Co. In 1982 he founded a consulting firm focused on banks and financial institutions, which he still heads as Managing Partner.
In 1996 he was elected as Full Professor for Banking and Managing Director of the Swiss Institute for Banking an Finance at the University of St.Gallen/Switzerland. From 1999-2001 he served as Dean of the School of Management at the University of St. Gallen and Member of the University Senate Committee. For many years he has been or still is member or chairman of the managing committee of many university institutes, so the Institute for Computer Science (IWI), the Institute for Technology Management (ITEM), the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management (IFPM) and (until 2011) of the Institute of Insurance Economics ( IVW).
In addition to his academic career he became increasingly involved in the entrepreneurial sector and is an active investor and board member of several medium-sized enterprises. He served as president of the International Boarding School Montana / Zugerberg. Since 1995 he is Chairman of the Board of RUF Group, a Swiss technology group, and since 1998 a board member of Remei AG, an international textile trade organization. From 1997 he served as a member of the board of listed Zuger Kantonalbank, since 2001 as Vice Chairman and from 2005 until 2010 as Chairman of the Board. From 2002 to 2011 he was a member of the board of the listed VP Bank Vaduz.
He has published numerous professional and scientific publications and books on financial and economic topics. For domestic and foreign financial institutions, government organizations, central banks and international organizations works as an expert consultant for financial system topics.
